Speed Reading For Bloggers
Ever wished you could read that valuable content of your favourite blogs a lot, lot quicker? Do you find reading large chunks of paged content difficult and slow?
Well have you thought about using a ‘Speed Reader’ Tool? What is a Speed Reader Tool? Well simply it is an online tool that enables you to er… ‘read with speed’ (said it was simple). Best of all these are usually free of charge.
The best free speed reading tool that I have come across is by Spreeder.com who have a powerful on screen tool that enables to you read text much quicker than you could in its normal on page layout.
How does it work? Well all you have to do is copy the text from your favourite blog post, paste it into the speed reader window and press play. The post is then displayed one word at a time in very quick succession. The number of words displayed per minute is set by default at 300 but can be increased or decreased as suits. Other user settings include word chunk size, font size, font colour etc.
Why does it work, well the makers of the tool themselves have this to say:-
‘’Actually, the idea behind speed reading is that we can process information much faster than we actually do in real life with a book in our hands. Several factors affect our reading speed, like subvocalization (the little voice inside our heads that reads along with us and slows us down), backtracing (rereading parts over and over again), etc.
The purpose behind apps like these is to train our minds to get rid of all the other crap. So, by having a steady input of text, we erase our dependency on backtracing. By increasing the reading speed, subvocalization can’t keep up and eventually goes away. The key here is that we don’t need to subvocalize to process information, as much as we may think we do.'’
I’ve used this tool to great effect, especially on those longer posts. Why not try this speed reading tool for yourself, it just might be the time saver that you were looking for.
