Wordpress Theme SEO

I spent many hours browsing the internet trying to find a SEO Wordpress Theme i.e. a template or theme that would be viewed upon favourably by the major search engines and help to push the page content and page keywords higher up the search engine results pages.

Try as I did I found it very difficult to find a truly optimised template theme that matched all the criteria that I was after, namely:-

  • Three column theme
  • Simple clear design
  • Content very near start of post data
  • H1 header tag for individual post title
  • Simple addition of adsense possible

Eventually the closest match that I found to a Wordpress theme exhibiting good SEO is the current design for this website which is Three columns kubrick template by LiewCF.
However although very good the standard theme design by LiewCF still required some work on my part. The H1 header tag in the LiewCF standard version is used for the title of the blog in my case ‘To Make Money Online’ but good SEO requires that the individual post title contains the very important H1 tag.

So in the single post I demoted the blog title to .h1 and amended the individual post title to be the H1 tag.
The H1 tag, the title tag and the keyword should now all match for the keyword that you are targeting for that specific page giving good SEO for that single post page.

In order to check that I was on the right lines, I looked for an online tool that simulates the crawlers and spiders that are used by search engines i.e. see your website like a Search Engine sees it. The best that I found was SEO-Browser which allows you to input your web page url and to quickly receive back a snapshot of how a spider may view your page.

Taking an example of a my last post i.e. Affordable cPanel Web Hosting and inputting the url for this post into SEO-Browser, the returned results show that the post title and the post title as a H1 tag are shown first. Also the very important page content data appears very close to the top of the page. The less important categories, archives etc are all lower down the page data.

Several SEO plugins were also added to my website but the details of these I will share with you in a later post.
