Free Word Translator
The free word translator that has already been added to this website (global translator update) is still giving me cause for concern. I keep seeing different pages being indexed for different posts in different languages but not ALL posts in ALL languages.
I suppose that I should be grateful that I am being listed at all by the free search engines. Google seems to list my new pages within days but Yahoo and MSN don’t seem to like indexing my pages for some reason.
However I believe that the duplicate content issue that was discussed recently in the amending your robots.txt file post may be the reason for this non-indexing issue.
I have noticed that the pages translated by the free word translator software, although having different titles (i.e. titles translated into the relevant language), all have the same description text listed in the search engine results.
I believe that this is because I am entering a separate Meta Description tag for each new post which is not being translated. Consequently this english description is being used for each result displayed in the SERPS for each language. I have seen this only briefly for a day or so before google appears to remove the duplicates and list only one of the translated posts.
Therefore as a test for this post, I have intentionally left the description tag empty. This should mean that the SERPS will display the initial text of this page underneath the title hopefully translated into the relevant language and more importantly unique. It will be interesting to see if anything is learnt from this test.
Although the plugin is a free word translator based on googles translation engine, I believe that its inclusion to this website is a very important weapon for quickly increasing the target audience of this site. As a result I will persevere with its use for a little longer but will review the situation as frequent intervals.
There are other products and options for using a free word translator on this site as well as paid-for word translators but as I have said already I will give the current tool some more time.
