Internet Explorer vs FireFox Issues

I am still trying to discover the best medium in which to write and edit the posts of this blog. I have used Notepad, Texpad and MS Word but after a few problems, I have plumped for the plain old in-built editor that comes within WordPress. I’ll explain the incident that resulted in me choosing this editor.

I must admit to using both of the popular browsers, Microsoft’s Internet Explorer and Mozilla’s Firefox, to write, edit and view my posts for this blog. I have various plug-ins and tools in each browser, some of which are not transferable and as a result, my currently open browser will depend on my PC activities at that time.

However I once used Microsoft Word to write a post, opened Firefox and used WordPress’s upload facility to import the newly crafted post into the blog. After previewing the new post in Firefox, everything looked OK and I hit the publish button and thought that was that.

However the next day I went to check my blog for comments, opened up the home page, this time not in Firefox but using Internet Explorer and was horrified to see that my blog page was a mess! The sidebar was wrapped around the bottom of the page, a huge piece of text was incorrectly all hyperlinked and everything else on the page was misaligned.

I’m still not sure what happened exactly but there was probably badly formed HTML that Firefox could handle but Explorer could not. I quickly edited and corrected the post using the WordPress built-in editor, re-published and viewed the post in BOTH Firefox and Explorer, checking carefully that everything was now OK. As a result I have since been reluctant to using MS Word as an editor.

Consequently always view your new post immediately after publication in as many browsers as you can and especially the big two of Internet Explorer and Firefox. Just to be on the safe side, I always do this check now.
